The time we start to sing in the ways of the Lord is the time we unload every burden, whether it be the burden of sin, the weight of the world, the worries and cares of this life, the time we lay it down ( and don't pick it back up again!) is the the time we sing again.
My fellow pilgrim, lay it at the foot of the cross and see if you don't walk away feeling good as new for the journey ahead. I too had a specific burden that I was carrying all by myself, it had to do with my extended family to be exact and you know what I found, really profound, I'm not strong enough and the regular, everyday, smaller cares and stresses of life seemed so enormous because I had excess weight carrying this huge sack on my back! The whole thing was draining me UNTIL I handed it to my Father. It's amazing how carrying excess baggage effects your spirit. The burden of one family member that needs help in a way that I cannot help, completely drained my spirit. But not anymore!!! I did not even know I was carrying that bag until one day in prayer and then my husband said out of the blue to me, "Let (said family member) go, you say you have given it to God but your spirit says otherwise." And before my gainsayers go crazy:) calm down (hee hee) I did not have a contentious, indifferent spirit at the house but he did say that I was especially quiet and withdrawn in thought that whole week as I am normally an extrovert, so he knew something was weighing on me.
John Bunyan, author of the book Pilgrims Progress describes it like this...." when poor Pilgrim lost his burden at the Cross, he gave three great leaps, and went on his way singing--" and let me tell you, truly my heart sings again.
The song writer that wrote this hymn knew how it felt when he didn't lay his burden down.
Tell It to Jesus
Are you weary, are you heavy hearted?Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.Are you grieving over joys departed? Tell it to Jesus alone.
Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.Have you sins that to men’s eyes are hidden? Tell it to Jesus alone.
Do you fear the gathering clouds of sorrow? Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
Are you troubled at the thought of dying?Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.For Christ’s coming kingdom are you sighing? Tell it to Jesus alone.
We need to just be real with the One who knows us better than we know ourself, we can tell Jesus everything, rememberig that His ear is not heavy that it cannot hear! And then truly, WALK AWAY and don't look back at that problem. Leave it there:
Leave it there, leave it there,Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out.Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail,
Don’t forget that God in Heaven answers prayer;
He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through.
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Heres wishing each weary pilgrim out there a lighter, happier Monday!!
